Health and Safety Apprenticeship

About the Role

We are seeking a Health and Safety Apprentice to join our team at Direct Line Group. As a Health and Safety Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Group Health and Safety Manager in developing and implementing our Health and Safety Strategy, Governance, and Health and Safety Culture.

Key Responsibilities

As a Health and Safety Apprentice, your key responsibilities will include:


  • Undertaking relevant H&S training and putting the knowledge gained into practice
  • Working to the criteria of the Level 3 Technician in Safety, Health, and Environment
  • Attending H&S meetings and Committees and setting agendas, taking minutes, logging and tracking actions arising
  • Participating in accident/incident and near miss investigations as needed
  • Participating in audit and inspection programmes across the group
  • Providing support in collating evidence and drafting accident, incident, and near miss reports
  • Creating audit reports and management information to be used for Exec H&S Committee and Risk Management Board
  • Supporting the implementation of the H&S module on the new CAFM Holistic business system
  • Redesigning and launching the H&S Pages on the Hub, creating content for H&S Newsletters and internal communication systems
  • Supporting meetings with external providers of Occupational Health and EAP and collating the data into usable management information for the business


Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have a genuine interest in Health and Safety and a love for data. You will also need to have:


  • A confident individual who can work independently when set a task
  • An outgoing individual with good listening and communication skills
  • A focused individual who enjoys working with data and on new systems
  • A curious individual who wants to understand why people do what they do in a work setting


Training Provided

By becoming an apprentice at Direct Line Group, you will be able to combine on-the-job practical skills with theoretical knowledge from off-the-job learning, giving you the best opportunity to develop your career. You will be paired with a dedicated DLG mentor who will also be a Chartered Fellow of IOSH and will support your training every step of the way. You will attend both online and face-to-face learning support sessions and there will be an End-Point-Assessment for this apprenticeship where you will be required to demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and behaviours.
