Job Title: Director of Research Services
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Research Services to join our team at BT Group. As a key member of our Research and Network Strategy team, you will play a critical role in driving innovation and delivering business value through research and development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Research Projects: Manage and lead one or more related research projects and activities, comprising matrixed resources both inside and outside BT, including university students and vendors.
- Engage with Business Units: Proactively engage with relevant business units to downstream strategic technologies for commercial realisation.
- Intellectual Property: Responsible for intellectual property creation, managing patent filing in their domain, and supporting IPR exploitation where appropriate.
- Research Definition: Accountable for defining and performing research in a specific domain of Autonomous Service Assurance.
- Team Supervision: Supervise professionals, graduates, and post-graduate student placements and secondments.
- Team Management: Depending on business needs, may manage Research Specialists, Professionals, or other Team members.
- Qualifications: Strong academic record in technology specialism with post-graduate qualification(s) (PhD or equivalent research experience).
- Storytelling with Data: Strong skills in building the case for change, drawing on data and analytical techniques where appropriate, and communicating this to business audiences.
Requirements:
- Technical Domain Expertise: Evidence of significant knowledge and skill relevant to Autonomous Service assurance, including:
- Data Science and Software Engineering: Python preferred.
- Autonomous Service Assurance Expertise: Including TM forum and industry standards familiarity.
- AI/ML Architectures: Development, test, and verification, including use of cloud infrastructure.
- Researching Trustworthy Autonomous Systems:
- Knowledge of Telecommunications Networks and Systems: Including Mobile.
- Proven Experience: Proven experience in researching and/or development in this area, including mobile (MANDATORY).
- Significant Delivery: Evidence of significant business impact through delivery of research (MANDATORY).
- Stakeholder Management: Evidence of managing project stakeholders across the business at a variety of grade and seniority levels (MANDATORY).
- Commercial Applicability: Understanding the business case principles around relevant innovations and the real value to the business through value proposition build (MANDATORY).
