Job Summary

This one-year fixed-term post is designed to provide a comprehensive training experience for clinicians wishing to pursue a career in paediatric anaesthesia and pain medicine. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide a high-quality elective and emergency anaesthetic service as requested.
  • Engage in clinical governance activities, including critical incident reporting, morbidity and mortality meetings, audit, and quality improvement activities.
  • Actively engage in the teaching and training of other members of the anaesthetic department and hospital staff.
  • Contribute to quality improvement activities.
  • Perform additional management and administrative tasks as deemed appropriate to the position.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have:

  • Primary medical qualification - MBBS or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration (obtained by designated start date).
  • FRCA (or equivalent level of knowledge).
  • At least 3 years' higher specialist training in anaesthesia and within 2 years of completing or up to 2 years post completing a recognised training scheme.
  • Experience of teaching and presenting.
  • Experience of audit/quality improvement activities.
  • Understanding of principles of clinical governance.

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to organise and prioritise their workload, and the ability to work under pressure in a multi-disciplinary environment.
