Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HSE Manager to join our client's team in the Widnes/Runcorn area. As a key member of the site's management team, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and implementing effective risk management strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HSE legislation and advise management and staff accordingly.
  • Act as the sole HSE representative, reporting to the Site Director and working closely with the Senior Management team to develop and implement HSE strategies.
  • Develop and implement the site's HSE management system, including policies and procedures, to ensure compliance with current legislation and meet established HSE targets.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the organisation's HSE strategy within agreed budgets.
  • Identify and implement internal and external training opportunities to support HSE initiatives.
  • Ensure effective record-keeping for integrated safe systems of work.
  • Maintain safe systems of work for contractors and visitors.
  • Maintain hazard spotting, internal audit, accident reporting systems, and committee meetings.
  • Support risk assessment procedures, identifying, prioritizing, and coaching colleagues on their completion and maintenance.
  • Ensure all PPE meets correct requirements dependent on usage.
  • Investigate all accidents and liaise with external and internal stakeholders, including HSE, insurance, and occupational health.
  • Maintain and report all HSE statistics, including key CSR metrics, on a regular basis to Group HSE.
  • Monitor the site's impact on the internal and external environment, including monitoring and implementing initiatives for improvement.
  • Participate in the Global and UK H&S network.
Requirements
  • Degree or professional membership within a relevant H&S area.
  • IOSH/ISO/HACCP qualifications.
  • Established health and safety professional within the manufacturing industry.
  • Confident presenter with ability to prepare presentations for delivery to peers.
  • Experienced in using innovative methods to prepare, execute, and bring everyone on board with rolling HSE improvement strategies.
  • Visual and pragmatic approach to continuous improvement.
  • Experienced in establishing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A strong awareness of the impact of operations on the environment with a track record for reduction initiatives.
  • Familiar with the principles of Corporate Social Responsibility (desirable).
  • Experience of the food industry and the application of Lean operations/Quality Assurance/Control (desirable).
