Groundsperson Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Groundsperson to join our Grounds and Gardens team at The School Cambridge. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining the day-to-day upkeep of our 76-acre grounds, ensuring that all areas appear well-maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain the grass, including cutting, rolling, strimming, scarifying, aerating, watering, seeding, and top dressing.
  • Mark out pitches, including the erection of goals, nets, corner flags, and boundary markers, in line with the school calendar.
  • Prepare, maintain, mark, and renovate cricket pitches.
  • Maintain paths, borders, hedges, and roadways.
  • Clear leaves and remove them.
  • Clear snow and ice from pathways, pavements, and roadways in the early morning to ensure safe access for pedestrians and vehicles.
  • Apply grit and salt in the early morning and late afternoon.
  • Maintain artificial all-weather surfaces.
  • Perform minor machinery maintenance.
  • Plant trees and shrubs as required.
  • Maintain bark-chipped areas, including reapplication and sweeping.
  • Keep records up to date as required by the Head of Grounds and Gardens.
Requirements:
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Previous experience in grounds work.
  • Honest and reliable with excellent timekeeping.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to use your own initiative.
  • Ability to show flexibility regarding working hours to complete essential tasks on time.
