University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is a leading healthcare provider in the South West region, and we are currently seeking an experienced locum consultant to join our team of anaesthetists. As a Cardiovascular Anaesthesia Specialist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients undergoing complex cardiovascular surgeries.
About the Role
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with our dedicated team of specialists at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, one of the largest acute trusts in the country. You will be expected to contribute to the delivery of exceptional patient care, working closely with our multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless transitions between wards and departments.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, including anaesthesia for major upper and lower abdominal surgery, vascular, thoracic, maxillofacial, ENT, oral surgery, obstetric surgery, and acute pain management.
- Take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients, ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Evaluate patients' medical histories, conduct thorough examinations, and develop treatment plans tailored to each individual's needs.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including surgeons, radiologists, and physiotherapists, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Develop and maintain expertise in specialist areas, such as Maxillofacial, ENT, oral surgery, Thoracic, Obstetric, Pain, Upper GI, Hepatobiliary, POAC, Vascular access, Acute and Chronic pain.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to patient care and safety.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Anaesthesia or equivalent qualification.
- Be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Demonstrate advanced training in specialist areas, particularly Maxillofacial, ENT, oral surgery, Complex Airways, Thoracic, Obstetric, Pain, Upper GI, Hepatobiliary, POAC, Vascular access, Acute and Chronic pain.
- Show evidence of developing a specialist service or demonstrating innovation in a chosen sub-speciality area.
- Evidence of relevant publications or regional or national presentations.
- Active participation in research.
- Certificate in Medical Education or higher degree in teaching.

Location and Working Hours
The role will be based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, with opportunities to work across various hospital sites, including Weston General Hospital, St Michael's Hospital, Bristol Eye Hospital, and South Bristol Community Hospital. The postholder will be expected to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
