The Role

This role supports the Lloyd's General Counsel and provides legal and regulatory advice and support to the Lloyd's senior management, committees, internal departments within Lloyd's, subsidiaries, and overseas offices, including market oversight.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Responsible for matters referred below with designated Heads of Commercial and Corporate Teams:
  • Provide expert and strategic legal advice on a wide range of legal matters related to strategic initiatives and transactional and regulatory matters. Identify high-risk issues and propose solutions. Advise on and influence strategic decision-making where appropriate.
  • Provide accurate, pragmatic and timely risk-based legal advice on legal issues in relation to Lloyd's membership, finance, regulatory and compliance matters (UK and international).
  • Assist with drafting, negotiating, reviewing and advising on commercial agreements, including services agreements, consultancy contracts, engagement letters, terms and conditions, software licenses, maintenance agreements, data transfer agreements, outsourcing agreements and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Identify, monitor and assess legal risks associated with Lloyd's operations and provide proactive and innovative solutions to mitigate those risks.
  • Draft with precision and exercise good judgment in negotiation of contracts and giving advice.
  • Use knowledge and pragmatism to identify when to involve other business areas.
  • Be open to change and adapt to it. Be willing to challenge and seek out new opportunities.
  • Effectively manage and communicate with clients/stakeholders on individual workstreams and projects. Communicate complex legal or business information in a simple way.
  • Effectively plan and prioritize workloads.
  • Communicate progress of ongoing matters at regular intervals to clients and respective Heads, as necessary.
  • Instruct and manage outside firms of solicitors and external advisers where required.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Good understanding of relevant legal aspects (insurance law, trust law, contract law, competition law, agency law, banking and finance law, regulatory law, Lloyd's byelaws and requirements).

Experience Requirements

  • Experience of providing risk-based legal advice on commercial, corporate and regulatory matters.
  • Experience of working with stakeholders.
  • Experience of managing cross-directorate and multi-stakeholder matters and projects.

Competitive Salary Package (£75,000 - £100,000)
