About Us:

Role Overview:

The Brent Young People's Pathway team provides support to 54 clients (aged 18-21) across accommodation sites, with complex needs, including mental health, substance use, at risk of exploitation, gang involvement, family mediation, and needing to access employment, training, and education.

As a Youth Homelessness Support Specialist at our service in Brent, you will be the first point of contact at reception for clients and visitors, and will be responsible for coordinating the daily office work for the team, including leading on Health and Safety.

You will carry out a range of support, housing management, and administration duties while managing a caseload of clients by supporting them to develop skills and resilience to live a positive life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cover all office tasks, including dealing with phones, petty cash management, and rent collection, project post, and all referral enquiries.
  • Deal with the immediate support needs of clients as appropriate, providing crisis intervention where necessary.
  • Coordinate appointments for clients, e.g., with GP/DWP/Probation, as required.
  • Provide advice to clients on housing, health, welfare benefit claims, and other issues as necessary.
  • Under the supervision of your Line Manager, keywork a small caseload of clients.
  • Record all resident's complaints appropriately and refer to relevant individuals.
  • Diffuse difficult or dangerous situations, resolve conflict between service users effectively and sensitively, and to summon outside emergency or other assistance when necessary.

What We Are Looking For – Person Specification:

  • Some experience of dealing directly with the public and/or clients or customers in a busy service environment.
  • Personal experience of homelessness and/or an understanding of; and empathy with the issues faced by homeless or vulnerably housed people.
  • Communication skills – Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of different people to build strong partnerships with clients and relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Administrative skills - The ability to familiarise yourself with IT applications and basic computing skills, maintaining clear and accurate records.
