About the Role

The Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Staff Nurse to join our Sexual Health service. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where you can make a real difference in the lives of our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care and services to patients with sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and other blood-borne viruses (BBVs). This will include providing testing, treatment, and management services.
  • Inform, advise, teach, and counsel clients on all methods of contraception, including sub-dermal contraceptive implant insertion and removal.
  • Obtain clear and thorough relevant histories from patients.
  • Examine patients and obtain appropriate clinical specimens according to clinic protocol.
  • Manage a range of symptomatic and asymptomatic female and male cases, including discharge, genital ulceration, and genital warts.
  • Provide clinical supervision to Band 3-5 staff.
  • Shift coordination to ensure the smooth running of clinics and arranging sickness cover.
  • Participate in audit, quality, and service improvement.

Our Sexual Health service is a leading provider of integrated services across London and Surrey. We deliver a comprehensive range of services, including GUM and contraception services, HIV services, and health promotion and outreach to vulnerable and "at-risk" groups.

Person Specification

  • RGN (NMC Sub-part 1 Adult branch)
  • nDFRSH/University Certificate in Contraception/Reproductive Health or equivalent recognized training, or willing to train
  • LOC SDI or equivalent qualification or willing to train
  • Substantive post-registration experience
  • Substantive experience in Sexual Health
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
  • The ability to discuss matters of sex and sexuality
  • Experience in managing asymptomatic GUM patients and Contraceptive patients in a nurse-led setting
  • Experience of working to PGDs in Sexual Health
  • Understanding of clinical guidelines and policies
  • Sensitive to the needs of a multi-cultural client group
  • Ability to work with young people
  • Ability to work unsupervised and as a member of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Flexible and adaptable to the role/work
  • Experience in teaching new and junior staff
  • Competent in: Female genital examination
  • Competent in: Venepuncture
  • Competent in: HIV PTD
  • Competent in: Sexual Health Promotion
