At Direct Line Group, we are looking for a motivated Pricing Specialist to join our Commercial Direct Pricing & Underwriting team.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a pricing role within an insurance environment, or recent graduates with a Mathematics-based degree.

As a Pricing Specialist, you will be responsible for planning and managing your own tasks to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of projects. You will also engage in technical discussions with both external suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure current and future business needs are met.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Suggesting recommendations to improve DLG's pricing performance and longer-term pricing capability, while maintaining underwriting discipline.
  • Providing analytical support and insight to inform business decisions and strategy, with a responsibility for ensuring robustness of output.
  • Assisting with the development of pricing models and ensuring their appropriate use and application. You will also monitor the effectiveness of models on an ongoing basis to ensure they are fit for purpose and suggest areas of development.
  • Analysing trading performance and monitoring controls, including producing and analysing tactical MI, and developing recommendations to support the trading objectives. You will also identify gaps in existing MI and develop improvements.
  • Planning, managing and delivering specific tasks and projects in a pro-active, timely and accurate manner, providing insights, impacts and recommendations.
  • Interacting effectively with peers in other areas of DLG to improve knowledge share and understand impacts of your work across the wider business. You will also ensure learnings are effectively communicated across the team.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvements to enable tasks to be performed in a more efficient manner. You will also challenge current processes appropriately with suggestions as to how these can be refined.
  • Developing knowledge of pricing and underwriting systems and processes; developing your business, market knowledge and awareness of relevant industry issues which impact your area and incorporating in the work that you do.
  • Developing yourself in order to maximise your personal contribution to the team and identifying opportunities to gain additional skills, including through secondments and/or rotations.
  • Identifying, owning and managing the risks involved in running our business appropriately to this role, in line with the company risk framework. You will also communicate to peers and team managers in a timely manner where you have discovered price, model or data issues and suggest appropriate remedial actions.
  • Ensuring compliance with core DLG Policies, statutory and regulatory requirements, governance controls (including all relevant risk minimum standards) and timely completion of risk and audit actions, ensuring reputational risk is minimised.
  • Reinforcing the culture and core values of DLG through appropriate behaviours and actions.

What we're looking for:

  • Previous pricing experience within an insurance pricing role, or recent graduate with a Mathematics-based degree.
  • Ability to work and create in an ever-changing environment.
  • Knowledge and/or desire to learn the following software: Radar, Emblem, Alteryx.
  • Display curiosity and collaboration, as well as being an excellent communicator and a good problem solver.
