Job Title: Specialist Breast Care Nurse

Job Overview:

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and experienced Specialist Breast Care Nurse to join our multi-disciplinary breast care team. As a 12-month secondment, this role offers an exciting opportunity to work within the screening and symptomatic service, providing specialist care to patients and their families.

Main Duties:

  • Provide a specialist, continuing, supportive Breast Care Service within the hospital and community setting, offering optimum healthcare to patients, their families, and carers.
  • Manage and organize own case load, working alongside and supporting the lead Specialist Breast Care Nurse.
  • Provide specialist breast care education, training, and impart sensitive information for patients, their carers, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring patient confidentiality is maintained.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • First-level registered nurse
  • Degree/degree pathway in a health-related subject/willingness to work towards
  • ENB A11 or equivalent specialist qualification or willingness to work towards
  • Teaching qualification/mentorship course or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • Significant post-registration proven experience within this clinical specialty

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate potentially unpleasant/sensitive information to patients in a variety of settings
  • Able to influence and overcome resistance through application of advanced communication skills
  • Ability to manage own caseload
  • Ability to perform assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care
  • Ability to perform relevant clinical skills
  • Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues across health and social care settings
  • Basic IT skills

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of professional and NHS issues and policy relating to Breast Disease management and implications/application to clinical practice
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

  • Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e., with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation
