About the Role:

SENDirect is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join the Inclusion Team of a special school in Southend. As a Behaviour Mentor, you will provide essential support to pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to success in school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the provision for pupils with SEMH needs across the school, working closely with the Inclusion Team to implement and assess provisions for individual students.
  • Develop and deliver targeted interventions to support students' specific needs, providing one-to-one and group support in the classroom and beyond.
  • Respond to behaviour-related incidents, de-escalating situations and managing challenging behaviour effectively.
  • Collaborate with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure comprehensive support for students, building relationships and coordinating additional support when necessary.
  • Manage and oversee the afternoon Nurture Support Base, creating a calm and supportive environment for students.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, with a strong understanding of behaviour management strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to assess students' needs and develop tailored interventions, with a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Patience, resilience, and a passion for supporting young people in overcoming barriers to success.
