About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer - Product Safety to join our team at BAE Systems (New). As a key member of our Safety & Environmental Team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our products during the design process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate safety activities, including risk reduction and analysis, to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Develop and implement safety strategies to mitigate risks and ensure the safe design of products.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety considerations are integrated into product development.
- Provide technical guidance and support to ensure safety standards are met.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a healthy product safety culture within the team and wider business.
Requirements:
- STEM degree with product safety experience within a regulated industry.
- Good working knowledge of safety analysis techniques, including FHA, FTA, ETA, FMEA, and STPA.
- Familiarity with UK Defence Standard and publications, such as Defence Standard 00-56 and Defence Standard 00-55.
- Good working knowledge of IEC 61508 and/or IEC 61511 for complex Software and Hardware Safety Instrumented Systems.
Desirable:
- Experience of model-based Systems Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status or working toward chartership.
- Experience within the Defence Industry.
- Familiarity with Cyber-Safety concepts.
- Experience of development of complex Systems of Systems (SoS).
