About the Organisation

Hourglass Northern Ireland is part of the well-established UK-wide charity, Hourglass. Our mission is to promote safer ageing and prevent abuse among older adults. We deliver a range of support services, from prevention and early intervention to direct support and recovery.

About the Role

We are recruiting a team of volunteers to help us deliver frontline support to older adults and others. As a Volunteer Advocate, you will be responsible for promoting our work and raising awareness of issues related to safer ageing and abuse.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Promote the work of Hourglass Northern Ireland and raise awareness of issues related to safer ageing and abuse.
  • Maintain regular contact with older adults through phone calls or visits, providing support and guidance when needed.
  • Act as an advocate for older adults, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights respected.
  • Provide casework support to individuals concerned about the abuse of older adults, making referrals to relevant agencies and providing information and advice.
Requirements:
  • A strong understanding of the experiences and issues affecting older adults.
  • Reliable and able to commit to agreed hours, including initial training.
  • Demonstrate patience, sensitivity, and resilience when interacting with older adults.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal appropriately with sensitive issues.
