Job Summary

Expeditors is seeking a highly skilled Customs Compliance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our compliance team, you will be responsible for ensuring that our operations are in compliance with all relevant customs regulations and laws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance overall operational compliance by ensuring that work is performed in accordance with company policies and government regulations.
  • Promote proactive and collaborative communication between yourself, management, and branch staff to ensure seamless operations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and national government agencies to stay up-to-date on trade activities and regulations.
  • Elevate operational compliance awareness within the branch through effective communication, coaching, and training.
  • Sustain compliance excellence to protect Expeditors and deliver superior customer service.
  • Validate the effectiveness of our controls through constant monitoring, oversight, feedback, and risk assessment.

Operational Duties

  • Maintain expertise in customs compliance matters and provide operational oversight and visibility to management.
  • Support the development and publication of internal customs guidance and procedures.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for compliance improvement using Expeditors tools and systems.
  • Develop and deliver customs-related training to branch staff and support the company's training and product teams.
  • Support District Managers and Customs managers in resolving operational customs compliance issues and concerns.
  • Support the company in maintaining customs/OGA approved statuses, approvals, and ongoing verifications.

SALES, TRANSITION & IMPLEMENTATION

  • Support transition and implementation teams on customs matters and provide guidance on customs SOPs.
  • Support customers on customs and trade compliance matters.
  • Provide expertise on customs and trade documentation and processes.

Personal Development

  • Complete 52 hours of training per year to stay up-to-date on industry developments and best practices.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of related experience in customs compliance or a related field.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of customs brokerage processes, systems, regulations, and legislation.
  • Knowledge of air, road, and ocean transport, as well as documentation and processes.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, comprehend, and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Pro-active and strong organizational skills.
  • Good computer skills, including Excel and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of customs declaration elements.
