About the Role

This position plays a vital role in ensuring the success of research operations onboard the R/V Elakha. As the Relief Master, you will assume overall command of all personnel and operations aboard the vessel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate scientific operations in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Supervise a team of personnel and oversee vessel operations.
  • Perform other duties as required, including adapting equipment for use on the Elakha.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Mechanical, electrical, electronic, welding, or other relevant skills for vessel maintenance and repair.
  • A strong commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.

Working Arrangements:

  • This role requires working at sea onboard the R/V Elakha, participating in research cruises that may last from a few hours to overnight voyages before returning to port.
  • Ship Operations is a seven-day per week operation, with weekend and holiday work possible.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000 per year based on location and experience.
