Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Engineering Expert to join our team based in Rosyth & Govan Shipyards. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for applying your knowledge of Structural / Mechanical / Electrical disciplines to identify problems and provide guidance on Marine New Construction and Commissioning topics.

Main Responsibilities

  • Apply theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate and maintain engineering products, processes, systems, and services.
  • Collaborate with the team to support the build process and understand the naval design process.
  • Utilise previous experience and operate as an expert advising on challenges and improvement opportunities in processes and methodology.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, identify issues and research on possible alternatives and disseminate this knowledge to the wider team.
  • Depending on skill level, lead on all activities within your discipline for the build, ensuring construction adheres to the LR Naval Ship Rules, the ANEP77 Naval Ship Code as well as other contractual requirements.
  • Drive and implement a safety strategy and carry out patrol and audit activities.
  • Support the Project Manager in raising possible risks and advising on key technical challenges.
  • Build good working relationships internally and externally with key contacts and suppliers.
  • Operate as a strategic and lateral thinker with ability to translate a wider strategy into clear goals, priorities, and expectations for the project team.
  • Act as an all-round communicator engaging with stakeholders and encouraging positive, open and two-way discussion, fully involving others in decisions and ideas.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd's Register within the relevant field of marine engineering or naval architecture, or
  • relevant qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certified ship officer
  • Security clearance is mandatory.
  • Ability to use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
