Job Overview

Reporting to the Head of Income, this exciting opportunity has arisen in the Finance Department for an Income Accountant. The successful candidate will work closely with the Contracting and Business Intelligence teams to monitor and report on monthly contract income against commissioning contracts.

Key responsibilities include providing financial support to the commissioning process and contracts team, as well as undertaking a broad range of financial tasks to support the Income team and Divisions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide financial support to the commissioning process and contracts team
  2. Undertake a broad range of financial tasks to support the Income team and Divisions
  3. Work closely with the Contracting and Business Intelligence teams to monitor and report on monthly contract income against commissioning contracts
Requirements
  1. Over 3 years general accounting experience in a large and complex organisation
  2. Knowledge and understanding of the current NHS financial regime and environment, especially payment by results and commissioning
  3. Experience of working with senior managers
  4. Knowledge of financial and other duties placed on NHS organisations
  5. Experience of planning and implementation
  6. Experience of working with/within multidisciplinary groups
  7. Knowledge and understanding of other NHS functions eg business planning
Desirable Criteria
  1. Experience of working within a variety of functions within the NHS eg. Financial Management, Costing and contracting, Audit, financial planning and Commissioning
  2. Experience of working with clinical leads
  3. Experience within a Foundation Trust
Training and Qualification
  1. Evidence of continued CPD
  2. Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  3. Up to date knowledge of accounting standards
Skills and Ability
  1. Highly developed communication skills with the ability to communicate complex financial data to non-finance managers
  2. Highly developed analytical skills to solve highly complex financial and non-financial problems.
  3. Able to form judgements and make autonomous decisions guided by policies and procedures
  4. Able to understand and interpret national financial policies and advising the Trust on their implementation
  5. Experience of planning to formulate the delivery of financial services at both operational and strategic level
  6. Able to frequently concentrate for prolonged periods
  7. Ability to deal effectively with frequent interruptions
  8. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
Other Specific Requirements
  1. Ability to self-manage workload
  2. Ability to work under pressure and maintain adherence to accuracy
