We are a leading company in the marine renewables industry, specializing in offshore solutions for the renewables sector. Our company comprises two divisions: Inyanga Maritime and HydroWing. Inyanga Maritime delivers large scale offshore solutions, including conceptual design, engineering, procurement, construction, and installation. HydroWing is developing an innovative modular tidal energy converter system to provide cost-effective, reliable, and predictable power to communities around the globe.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team as a Design Engineering Lead. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the engineering consultancy activities within the Inyanga Maritime division and developing engineering proficiencies across the group. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with external project stakeholders and internal resources to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating detailed designs of project-specific equipment, ensuring compliance with departmental procedures and applicable codes and standards.
  • Performing engineering design verification and validation through rigorous analysis, calculations, and the development of associated design documentation such as test procedures and manuals.
  • Leading the engineering design process for assigned projects, ensuring all activities are carried out with the highest regard for health and safety and environmental protection.
  • Providing technical support and liaising with workshop, procurement, and operational teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Interacting with clients to understand their needs and providing engineering solutions that meet their requirements.
  • Contributing to commercial activities, such as providing input to tenders by reviewing scopes of work, creating concept designs, and preparing cost, time, and resource estimates.

Requirements

  • 10 years post-graduation experience within a relevant engineering industry.
  • Hand calculations for feasibility and preliminary sizing.
  • Research, design, evaluate, and develop offshore equipment and tools.
  • Structural analysis using SolidWorks Simulation, PDM, ANSYS, and/or STAAD.
  • Producing design risk assessments and FMECA documentation.
  • Promoting a strong health and safety culture.
  • Host and/or contribute to key design reviews working closely with the Project Managers.
  • Managing and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • M.Eng / B.Eng level qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Previous experience and track record in the design of offshore environments is beneficial.
