Menzies Distribution Limited is seeking a highly skilled Transport Manager to lead our transport operations team. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe movement of goods across our network.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage and allocate staff resources to meet the changing needs of the operation.
- Ensure effective use of driver and vehicle resources to minimize costs and maximize efficiency.
- Administer customer requirements in a timely and controlled manner, maintaining accurate records.
- Identify opportunities to reduce empty running and improve operational efficiency within the Menzies network.
- Conduct periodic reviews of delivery schedules to ensure alignment with customer strategic changes.
- Ensure all fleet assets are properly maintained, with regular servicing and MOTs, and that all necessary paperwork and systems are up-to-date.
- Develop new business opportunities by analyzing logistical problems and proposing innovative solutions.
- Monitor performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to optimize operations.
- Promote adherence to UK and EU laws and regulations, as well as Health and Safety legislation, by maintaining high standards of work and ensuring all inductions and regular training are completed and logged.
- Ensure transport planning operations are aligned with budgeted costs and achieve all contractual KPIs.
- Prepare and submit various KPI reports to stakeholders.
- Implement strategies to improve fuel efficiency and reduce costs.
- Manage tacho-graph infringements to ensure full compliance.
- Ensure all aspects of maintenance, including tyre checks, servicing, and MOTs, are compliant with the maintenance manual and relevant laws.
- Investigate accidents and update risk assessments to maintain a positive safety culture.
- Support the development of team members, conducting performance reviews and identifying training needs.
- Foster a positive working environment, promoting diversity and inclusivity within the team.
- Manage and develop new business opportunities, including investigating sub-contractors and suppliers to ensure cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency.
- Investigate personal and vehicle accidents in accordance with Company procedures.
- Be responsible for driver recruitment, training, and retention.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Driver Hours and WTD regulations.
- Good financial experience of running a transport operation.
- Ability to manage and lead people.
- Previous management experience in logistics or a similar field.
- CPC qualification.
- Experience working within the transport industry.
- International CPC.
- Good IT skills.
- Good understanding of Transport Regulations.
- IOSH desirable.
