About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator to join our dynamic team at London Gatwick Airport. As a key member of our commercial team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of our strategic aims and objectives through accurate financial estimates and cost plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Cost Estimation Efforts: Apply our standard processes to deliver accurate early-stage financial estimates and cost plans, ensuring best practices are employed throughout all programmes.
  • Support Commercial Strategy: Collaborate with the Lead Commercial Manager to produce and update processes and procedures for estimating, benchmarking, and targeting costs, focusing on current best practices.
  • Project Support: Assist project teams in applying our processes and procedures for estimation and benchmarking, ensuring comprehensive and clear engagement.
  • Cost Management: Manage the utilisation of techniques to ensure estimates and cost plans reflect value to the business, compared to the external market, through validation, cost modelling, and benchmarking.
  • Estimate Presentation: Apply clear templates for presenting estimates and cost plans to sponsors and project teams, ensuring comprehensive and clear engagement.
  • Standardised Cost Breakdown: Ensure all estimates conform to a standardised cost breakdown structure, promoting alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Cost Comparison: Manage the utilisation of cost management structures to facilitate transparent cost comparisons throughout the project lifecycle, including comparisons with contractor tender submissions.
  • Template Development: Design, develop, apply, and maintain standard templates in our Integrated Benchmarking & Estimating tool to present the basis of estimates, covering essential assumptions, omissions, allowances, and risk items.
  • Benchmarking and Community Building: Cultivate relationships with other airports and client organisations, fostering a community that shares data to establish a range of external benchmarks supporting value and capital efficiency demonstrations.
  • Cost-Effectiveness Metrics: Define and routinely produce metrics for evaluating the cost-effectiveness of project estimates.
Requirements
  • Education: Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering, construction, or business-related field.
  • Professional Membership: Membership in a professionally recognised cost organisation, such as RICS, is highly desirable.
  • Experience: Experience as a Cost Planner/Senior Estimator (or similar) on multi-year programmes/projects with a value typically above £50m in a relevant industry.
  • Business Process Design: Experience in designing business processes for cost estimating, including the implementation of standardised Cost Breakdown Structures, preferably within an organisation considered to be high-performing or best practice in project delivery.
  • Infrastructure Project Delivery: Experience in the delivery of infrastructure projects in a live operational environment is highly desirable.
