Job Summary:

Chelmsford City Council is seeking a highly skilled Building Control Officer to join our Building Control Services Team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with building regulations and providing expert advice to construction professionals, building owners, and the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess plans for compliance with building regulations and undertake site visits to inspect building works under construction.
  • Keep accurate records of all decisions made and deal with unauthorized building work in contravention of building regulations.
  • Provide advice to construction professionals, building owners, and members of the public on building regulations and safety standards.
  • Deal with reversion of works due to the cancellation of initial notices.

Requirements:

  • A relevant qualification, such as a degree in building surveying or building control.
  • A sound knowledge of the relevant provisions in The Building Act 1984, The Building Safety Act 2022, Building Regulations 2010, and associated Approved Documents.
  • Registration with the Building Safety Regulator as a Class 2 Registered Building Inspector or in the process of undertaking a competency validation with one of the accepted accreditors.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction technology and the building process.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, IT literacy skills, and a full driving license with access to a vehicle.
