Senior Quantity Surveyor Job Description

VGC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team in the Warwickshire area. As a key member of our project team, you will be responsible for managing all cost-related aspects of the project, ensuring that it remains within budget while meeting all contractual and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert advice on cost management and commercial strategy to ensure the project's financial success.
  • Oversee the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and cost plans, and manage the procurement process, including the preparation and evaluation of tender documents.
  • Monitor project expenditure, identify potential cost overruns, and provide solutions to mitigate financial risks.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to negotiate contracts, resolve commercial issues, and ensure that the financial aspects of the project align with its overall objectives.
  • Regularly report on financial performance, cost forecasting, and variance analysis, and maintain detailed records to support project audits and compliance checks.
Competencies:
  • Strong analytical skills, with a proven track record in cost management and quantity surveying within large-scale infrastructure projects, preferably in the railway sector.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including contractors, clients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy in cost reporting, with the ability to manage complex budgets and ensure that all financial data is reliable and up to date.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to the dynamic environment of a major infrastructure project.
  • A proactive problem-solver, with the ability to identify and address financial risks early and provide solutions that support the project's success.
Qualification Requirements:
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, Commercial Management, or a related field, and be a member of a recognized professional body such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
  • Have a minimum of 7 years of experience in quantity surveying, with a focus on large-scale infrastructure or railway projects, is required.
  • Experience with NEC contracts and a strong understanding of cost management software and financial reporting tools are essential.

The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will receive a competitive salary of up to £65,000 per annum, plus additional benefits.
