About the Team

KPMG's Major Projects Advisory (MPA) division collaborates with leading organizations to address significant challenges in infrastructure. As a prominent market player, we have an extensive client portfolio across both commercial and public sectors, delivering impactful results on well-known projects and programs.

Our focus is on providing insights to Boards, Executives, and Senior Responsible Owners (SROs) at major public and private sector entities regarding the execution of their projects and programs. We engage in some of the UK's most strategically vital initiatives across various infrastructure sectors, including transportation, natural resources, energy, utilities, corporate sectors, oil & gas, defense, healthcare, housing, and education.

Our team consists of experts with extensive experience in the construction industry, having worked with project owners, contractors, engineering consultants, and other stakeholders both in the UK and internationally.

About the Role

This position is designed for an innovative professional at the managerial level with experience in major project and program procurement. You will collaborate with our existing team, leveraging your comprehensive understanding of the entire project and program lifecycle in the construction sector, along with a mix of procurement, commercial, engineering, delivery, and supply chain expertise to address complex challenges.

Your role will involve advising a diverse range of clients on various issues, assisting them in achieving successful outcomes through the planning and execution of innovative and effective procurement and commercial strategies.

The MPA team operates from multiple locations, and this role will be based in one of these areas, with travel to client sites as necessary.

About the Ideal Candidate

This role is best suited for individuals with post-qualification experience in commercial or program management, along with a broad understanding of engineering, design, delivery, and construction supply chains. The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • A solid grasp of procurement processes in construction and project contexts throughout the asset lifecycle
  • Experience in formulating and executing procurement, supply chain, and market management strategies, including procurement frameworks, alliancing agreements, market assessments, and modern construction methodologies
  • A thorough understanding of procurement legislation and regulations
  • Familiarity with standard industry contract forms, such as the NEC suite
  • A keen awareness of factors influencing project performance
  • The ability to devise a clear strategy for addressing new challenges efficiently
  • Strong, concise, fact-based reporting skills
  • A relevant professional qualification, such as MCIPS or MRICS

Additionally, experience in some of the following areas would be advantageous:

  • Project / program management
  • Project / program controls
  • Engineering or Design
  • Earned value management
  • Cost management, estimation, and benchmarking
  • Risk management
  • Claims, disputes, and dispute resolution
  • Governance and oversight of projects

This role will also encompass the complete lifecycle of managing client engagements, utilizing KPMG systems, for which comprehensive training will be provided:

  • Overseeing project teams to deliver client engagements
  • Managing financial aspects of engagements with support and supervision
  • Keeping clients informed of costs and time incurred, in addition to invoicing and fee recovery, while adhering to approved risk protocols
  • The role will involve direct client interaction and will significantly influence KPMG's reputation and perception
