Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one and small group literacy support to students with SEN, focusing on reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
  • Collaborate with the English Department and Inclusion team to design and implement personalized learning plans tailored to individual student needs.
  • Develop and adapt learning materials to cater to the diverse needs of SEN students, ensuring they can engage with all subjects effectively.
  • Deliver and support literacy programs such as Ruth Miskin or Phonics, using these approaches to improve student attainment and engagement.
  • Track and assess student progress in literacy, providing regular feedback to teachers, the Inclusion team, and parents to inform future planning.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in literacy education and SEN support.
Requirements:
  • Relevant qualifications in Literacy or Special Educational Needs, such as a Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning or Literacy Specialist courses.
  • Proven experience working with SEN students, particularly in literacy support, within a secondary school setting.
  • Familiarity with literacy intervention programs such as Ruth Miskin or Phonics is desirable.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, the Inclusion team, and other professionals to create a supportive and effective learning environment.
  • A creative and energetic approach to developing and delivering literacy programs that engage and inspire students.
  • Enhanced DBS registration or willingness to apply for a new one.
