Head of SOC Job Description

Robert Walters is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of SOC to lead our Cyber Security team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for driving our cyber security strategy and overseeing the implementation of streamlined processes and optimized automations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Drive Cyber Security Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive cyber security strategy that aligns with our organization's goals and objectives.
  2. Mentoring and Managing UK-Wide SOC Team: Coach and train our SOC team to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage and respond to security incidents.
  3. Enhance Threat Detection Capabilities: Implement and optimize threat detection capabilities to ensure timely and effective response to security incidents.
  4. Design/Implement Streamlined Processes and Optimize Automations: Develop and implement streamlined processes and optimized automations to improve efficiency and effectiveness of our SOC team.
  5. Monitor/Analyse Security Events: Monitor and analyze security events to identify potential security threats and coordinate effective response.
  6. Mitigate Vulnerabilities: Identify and mitigate vulnerabilities to prevent security breaches.
  7. Manage/Optimize SIEM and SOAR Platforms: Manage and optimize our SIEM and SOAR platforms to ensure they are effective in detecting and responding to security incidents.
  8. Improve Incident Response Times and Threat Detection: Develop and implement strategies to improve incident response times and threat detection capabilities.
  9. Enhance Team Processes, Automations: Continuously evaluate and improve team processes and automations to ensure they are effective and efficient.
  10. Test/Implement New Automation Techniques: Stay up-to-date with the latest automation techniques and implement them to improve our SOC team's efficiency and effectiveness.
  11. Primary Stakeholder for Escalated Incidents: Serve as the primary stakeholder for escalated incidents and ensure timely and effective response.
  12. Develop SOC Processes and Documentation: Develop and maintain up-to-date SOC processes and documentation to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
  13. Monitor/Analyse Security Events: Continuously monitor and analyze security events to identify potential security threats and coordinate effective response.
Requirements:
  1. Proven Experience as a Technical/Team Manager: Proven experience in managing technical teams and driving cyber security strategies.
  2. Cyber Security Expert: Deep understanding of cyber security best practices and experience in implementing effective security controls.
  3. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical staff.
  4. SOC Operations and SIEM/SOAR Tools Experience: Experience in managing SOC operations and implementing SIEM and SOAR tools.
  5. Technical Security Controls: Experience in implementing technical security controls, including firewalls, IPS, endpoint security, web and email filtering, and network security logging.
  6. Supporting Secure Infrastructure: Experience in supporting secure infrastructure from change to BAU.
  7. Providing Security Expertise: Ability to provide security expertise, guidance, and assurance for projects.

This is a permanent opportunity for a Head of SOC, paying a salary up to £85,000 plus package. The role is home-based, offering flexibility and work-life balance.
