We are seeking an experienced Head of Software to lead our software development team in Cambridge. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for guiding and managing a talented pool of software engineers to deliver innovative solutions and drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of software engineers to deliver software development projects on time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement a strategic technological vision for software development, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure delivery against agreed priorities and drive business growth.
  • Implement mechanisms to monitor, manage, and provide progress on all software development activities.
  • Ensure all software development projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Take responsibility for departmental and project budget forecasting, estimation, and control.
  • Creation, implementation, and monitoring of a continuous improvement plan for software development.
  • Ensure that the skills and experience of the Software team are consistent with business needs.
Requirements:
  • At least five years in a management role with a background in embedded software within a product development environment.
  • A thorough understanding of software development processes and tools, including Version/Configuration Management, Issue tracking tools, CI/CD, SAST, and SCA.
  • Experience of managing departmental budgets and exceptional organisational, interpersonal, and project management skills.
  • Experience with mentoring & coaching, performance management, technical arbitration, workforce and resource planning, and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • An analytical thinker with a logical and methodical approach to identifying issues and solutions.
  • Experience with developing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting KPIs.
  • The ability to inspire a culture of continuous improvement.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of telecommunications solutions such as 4G/5G.
