Job Title: Healthcare Assistant - Blood Donation
About the Role
NHS Blood and Transplant is a leading organization in the field of blood donation and transfusion. We are seeking a highly motivated and caring individual to join our team as a Healthcare Assistant - Blood Donation. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our blood donation sessions and providing exceptional care to our donors.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality care to blood donors, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the donation process.
- Assist with the setup and operation of blood donation sessions, including the preparation of equipment and supplies.
- Conduct blood pressure checks and other vital signs as required.
- Monitor and maintain accurate records of donor sessions, including any adverse reactions or issues.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless delivery of care.
Requirements
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting, preferably in a blood donation or transfusion environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with donors, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
- Valid full UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
What We Offer
- 6-week training period to fully prepare you for your role.
- Rotas published 4 weeks ahead of time.
- No night shifts.
- Payments for unsociable hours, overtime, meal and driving allowances where applicable.
- NHSBT promotes flexible working opportunities where the role allows.
- 27 days per year plus 8 bank/public holiday. Pro rata if part-time. Leave increases to 29 days after 5 years' service and 33 days after 10 years' service.
