Research Fellow in Physical Oceanography

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join our team at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton. The successful candidate will work on the dynamics of turbulent mixing over mid ocean ridges, analyzing novel measurements of small- and finescale processes collected over the Mid Atlantic Ridge in the subtropical North Atlantic.
The position will involve working as part of a team examining the physical processes relevant to the dynamics of turbulent mixing over mid ocean ridges and their impact on the vertical transport of nutrients and carbon in subtropical gyres. The successful applicant will have a PhD or equivalent in physical oceanography (or a related field) with experience in the interpretation of oceanographic observations.
The RidgeMix project aims to solve the longstanding problem of how phytoplankton in these oligotrophic regions are supplied with nutrients. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists at project partner institutions both in the UK and the USA.
The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of ocean dynamics and strong quantitative and communication skills, and the ability to conduct innovative research leading to high-impact publications in international refereed journals.
