We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team at a secondary school in Shipley. As a HLTA, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, adapting your teaching style to engage and support pupils with diverse learning challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils across multiple subjects, including Maths, English, Science, Humanities, and Creative Arts, using a primary-based curriculum approach.
- Work closely with teachers to adapt and deliver lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils with SEND.
- Provide pastoral care and emotional support, ensuring a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Help develop strategies to manage behaviour, fostering a calm and focused classroom atmosphere.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, using your sense of humour and empathetic nature to connect with those who have SEMH and neurodiverse needs.
- Collaborate with colleagues to monitor and track student progress, ensuring tailored interventions where necessary.
Requirements:
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
- Previous experience as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) or similar role in a school setting.
- Proven experience working with pupils who have SEMH, autism, ADHD, and other SEND needs.
- Familiarity with the primary curriculum and the ability to support learning across a range of subjects.
- Ability to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour in a calm, supportive manner.
