Job Title: Frontend Developer

We are seeking a skilled Frontend Developer to join our team at News UK. As a Frontend Developer, you will be responsible for creating visually appealing, responsive, and accessible user interfaces that set the standard for usability and performance.

About the Role:

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on high-profile projects and contribute to the development of our digital products. You will be working closely with our design team to bring designs to life, using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create engaging and interactive user experiences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyse customer requirements and assist with project budgeting and scheduling
  • Liaise with teams/individuals to develop and refine high-level design concepts
  • Develop website front-end presentation layer (i.e., HTML/CSS/JavaScript)
  • Maintain and evaluate changes to existing websites
  • Adhere to in-house standards on development practices
  • Perform other duties as directed
Requirements:
  • Comprehensive understanding of HTML semantics, accessibility best practices, and cross-browser compatibility
  • Excellent CSS skills, including preprocessors like SCSS/Sass and responsive design principles
  • Comprehensive understanding of core JavaScript concepts such as DOM manipulation, event handling, and ES6+ features
  • Understanding of WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and experience in implementing accessibility features
  • UI/UX Principles and knowledge of techniques to ensure consistent rendering across different browsers and devices
  • Animation and Interaction skills, proficient in CSS animations and transitions
  • Web Performance skills, proficient in performance techniques such as lazy loading and resource minification
  • Experience with GIT / Version control systems
  • Excellent communication and team-working skills
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to prioritise workload
  • Ability to work well on your own and within a team environment
