About the Role

We're looking for a talented, hands-on and highly ambitious Engineering Lead to oversee the design, development, testing, and release of features, ensuring engineering best practices.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical knowledge of PHP, Laravel and JavaScript, and experience in SCRUM or Agile Framework implementation, monitoring and management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Management and Mentorship: Lead and manage a team of engineers, providing guidance, mentorship and support to ensure their professional development and success.
  • Optimise Team Output: Lead and manage Engineering teams to constantly improve team velocity while maintaining quality standards.
  • Agile Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Product Managers, Designers and business stakeholders to define product requirements, scope and roadmaps.
  • Ensure Quality Standards: Oversee the design, development and delivery of high quality features and products, ensuring best practices in coding, testing and deployment.
  • Capture Metrics and Reporting: Identify key Engineering performance metrics and establish reporting structures to drive continuous improvement efforts and ensure data-driven decision-making.
  • Hands-on Feature Development: Provide hands-on support, dedicating a minimum of 20% of the time to building and shipping your own features/fixes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of delivering successful projects.
  • SCRUM or Agile Framework implementation, monitoring and management.
  • Strong technical knowledge of PHP, Laravel and JavaScript.
  • Leading the commercial/technical direction of a team/startup.
  • Building and maintaining microservices.
  • Setting up test harnesses and incorporating effective testing into their workflow.
  • Using data to lead decision making.
  • Python.
  • 3D modelling software such as FreeCAD, PythonOCC, CAD Exchanger or three.js.
