About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team at the Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station (COMES). As a Research Associate, you will play a key role in supporting our research efforts in fisheries genomics, particularly in the areas of spring Chinook salmon and steelhead genetics.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences related to genetics, ecology, or evolution, with an emphasis in statistics. They will also have excellent communication skills, ability to engage respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and experience working independently and as part of a team.

This position requires a demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed journals, experience with next-generation sequencing methodologies, and proficiency in one or more programming languages, including R for data analysis. The ideal candidate will also have experience working in high-performance computer clusters and processing and analyzing environmental DNA (eDNA) samples.

Key Responsibilities

60% Research: The successful candidate will contribute to our research efforts by conducting laboratory work, analyzing genetic and genomic datasets, and writing peer-reviewed papers and technical reports.

25% Publications and Presentations: You will be responsible for publishing research findings in top-tier scientific journals and presenting research results at national and international conferences.

10% Data Management: You will ensure that all research data are accurately documented, stored, and managed according to established protocols and procedures.

5% Outreach and Service: You will participate in outreach and service activities, such as collaborating with coastal communities, federal, state, and private organizations to support the COMES mission.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
