Health and Safety Manager

We are seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Environmental Manager to provide essential operational, commercial, and strategic support to our truck & trailer (DGTT) and van (DGV) businesses. This role will play a critical part in enhancing our infrastructure and leading a transition to a more sustainable platform.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in health, safety, and environmental management, with a proven track record of developing and implementing policies, standards, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
Key Responsibilities:- Support both management teams in achieving health, safety, and environmental KPIs and performance objectives.
- Develop and recommend policies, standards, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Attend and facilitate internal health and safety meetings for both DGTT and DGV as required.
- Actively participate in the group-wide health and safety committee.
- Develop and implement an SHE action plan to drive a health and safety culture, ensuring full compliance with H&S legislation and environmental standards.
- Conduct and complete site-related risk assessments with Site Managers, identifying and reducing key risks.
- Conduct detailed accident investigations and recommend solutions to prevent reoccurrences.
- Analyse health and safety training needs and produce a national training matrix by role.
- Develop a national infrastructure to support all health and safety-related training, including delivering in-house training programs as required.
- Undertake periodic site inspections, report findings, and make recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with the group facilities team to develop a national infrastructure for site compliance and maintenance.
- Support the implementation of infrastructure for assets with alternative propulsion systems.
- Act on own initiative within given guidelines, seeking advice from specialist departments when necessary.
The successful Health & Safety Environmental Manager will:
- Be a confident communicator and have experience in developing good relationships with a range of staff and customers.
- Be adaptable and flexible in your approach to work and have excellent organisational skills.
- Have good IT skills, with an understanding of Microsoft packages.
- Have a minimum of two years experience in a Health and Safety Managerial role.
- Possess a NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Have skills in project planning and data analysis.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and be effective at managing change.
- Have comprehensive knowledge of UK environmental, health, and safety legislation.
- Hold a full, valid UK driving licence.
