Senior Principal Electrical Engineer

Hybrid - 3 Days a week in the office

Bristol

We are seeking a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team at Rolls-Royce Power Systems (RRPS) in Bristol. As part of NautIQ Solutions, you will work closely with other engineering disciplines to design Low Voltage Power Distribution Systems and Equipment for Naval applications.

NautIQ Solutions UK is located in Bristol and Heybridge and is a part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems that focuses on delivering electrical and automation products to our Naval and Commercial Marine customers. Our team is developing low voltage DC hybrid propulsion systems, combining Rolls-Royce diesel generators and batteries into a complete DC system offering that includes the Integrated Platform Management System. This offering is aimed at the Commercial Marine market, principally yachts and ferries.

  • Design and optimize bespoke electrical power systems to meet customer requirements.
  • Ensure technical project outcomes and directions are delivered, and provide technical guidance to a small team when required.
  • Assist and support managers in offering coaching and training, as well as providing input on performance reviews and career development.
  • Lead/deliver the testing of electrical products through to delivery.
  • Protect the company's interest in your technical field when engaging with customers and suppliers, with occasional travel to locations as necessary.
  • Author and review technical documentation, reports, and schedules before final approval from the Chief of Electrical Engineering.

Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in the electrical field with experience in electrical design techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of both AC and DC electrical power distribution systems, their components, and sub-assemblies.
  • Able to work autonomously across a broad, ambiguous, or complex area, independently leading projects.
  • Able to plan and drive commitments, delivering to the right quality, on time, and to budget.

Desirable:

  • Possess a working knowledge of marine and electrical standards and regulations.
  • Able to support individuals in design software such as AutoCAD electrical, MATLAB, Paladin, ETAP, & Mathcad.
