Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Elective Surgical Admissions team as we implement Dedicated Ward Pharmacy across the trust. As a Clinical Specialist Pharmacist, you will contribute to the pharmaceutical care of elective patients throughout their perioperative journey.

Main Duties

You will be part of a pharmacy team responsible for the pharmaceutical care of elective patients. Your focus will be on reviewing patients in the pre-operative assessment clinic (POAC) and in our Main Theatres Admission Unit (MTAU), where you will liaise with anaesthetists, surgeons, and other multidisciplinary team members to optimise pharmaceutical management.

You will work within our established surgical pharmacy team, with opportunities to work on all surgical wards and our new Critical Care unit. You will be responsible for providing pharmacy support to one of our surgical directorates and may attend consultant-led ward rounds, including our Acute Pain Team and Nutrition Team.

This role extends to providing advice and educating medical and nursing staff, as well as contributing to the development and implementation of medicines management policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Education, Training, and Qualifications

  • BPharm or MPharm degree
  • Member of General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Achieved (or working towards) postgraduate clinical qualification (or equivalent knowledge/experience)

Knowledge and Experience

  • Post-registration clinical pharmacy experience within hospital, PCN, community, including at least four of the following specialties: Medicine (or medical specialties), Care of the Older Person, Surgery (or surgical specialties), Paediatrics, Medicines Information, Oncology/Haematology, Aseptics
  • Teaching, supervising, and training staff
  • NHS arrangements, eg CCGs, NICE, CQC, Clinical Governance, PCNs, NHS Digital
