About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Education Lawyer to join our Adult Social Care and Education Team at Reading Borough Council. As an Education Lawyer, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality legal advice and representation to our customers, ensuring that they receive the best possible support and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Hold a caseload of SEN appeals and provide general education advice, including conducting judicial reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to meet tight deadlines and handle your own advocacy.
  • Provide advice to a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring comprehensive and effective legal support.
Requirements
  • Excellent working knowledge of key education legislation, with a particular ability to conduct special education needs appeals, including undertaking advocacy at SEND Tribunals.
  • Current practising certificate, qualifying you to practice in England as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.
  • Post-qualification experience in education law, including SEN appeals.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and perform well under pressure.
  • Collaborative approach, working effectively as part of a team.
  • Capability to handle your own advocacy.
  • Strong skills in providing advice to a diverse range of stakeholders.
