Role Overview

This role offers an exciting opportunity to join our pharmacy team at the Sutton site of The Royal Marsden. You will be part of a dynamic team consisting of Pharmacists, Technicians, and Assistants who are committed to delivering outstanding care to our patients.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the safe and efficient operation of the SACT Distribution Unit (SDU). Your primary responsibilities will include procuring, storing, dispensing, final checking, and distributing batch and patient-specific products to all areas of the hospital.

You will work closely with the Stores Manager, Pharmacy Systems Manager, and Chief Technicians to ensure the effective delivery of batch and PS products to the hospital. Additionally, you will assist the Lead Pharmacy Technician in directing, supervising, and coordinating the daily running of the SDU according to standard operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • To maintain and manage the safe, efficient, and daily running of the SACT Distribution Unit (SDU) to the highest standard of patient-focused care.
  • Procurement, storage, dispensing, final checking, and distribution of batch and patient-specific products to all areas of the hospital.
  • Act as a supervisor and support the daily operational management of the SDU, deputizing for the Lead Pharmacy Technician when necessary.
  • Act as a role model and line manage junior members of the team.
  • Work closely with Stores Manager, Pharmacy Systems Manager, and Chief Technicians to ensure the effective delivery of batch and PS products to the hospital.
  • Assist the Lead Pharmacy Technician in directing, supervising, and coordinating the daily running of the SDU according to standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure batch and PS doses are dispensed and delivered to the correct day unit/ward in good time ahead of patients' chair times.
  • Support the management of the batch and PS supply pathway, including the efficient transfer of medicines to clinical areas.
  • Liaise with clinical unit and pharmacy staff colleagues to resolve any queries or problems with patients' treatments.
  • Evaluate and improve the SDU service by participating in audits, data collection, and implementation of developments.
