Job Summary

This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity to work in the state-of-the-art Theatres and Day Surgery department at Darlington Memorial Hospital. As an Administrative Support Officer, you will be responsible for managing and supervising a team of administrative staff to provide an efficient and confidential reception and administrative support service to the Theatre and Day Surgery staff.

The post holder will be required to print theatre lists, amend theatre slots, and patients' details while liaising with wards, clinical staff, and the waiting list team to book patients. Line management skills and experience are essential for this role.

Main Duties

The main duties of the job include managing and supervising the theatre administrative and day surgery reception staff to ensure reception cover and support is provided between the hours of 6:30 am and 17:00. The team will provide a meet and greet service to patients and visitors arriving for surgery, answer calls from internal and external customers, and prepare and order theatre lists and consent information ready for clinical interactions.

Supervisory tasks include staff rostering, management of sickness and holiday absence, conducting appraisals and regular 1:1s with a view to developing the staff and team, and allocation of work and training and support to staff.

County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services from two acute sites, Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield, and Weardale, as well as over 80 other community-based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
