About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled VAT Compliance Specialist to join our Indirect Tax Team in Birmingham. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting our Centralised Insolvency Delivery Team (IDT) on VAT compliance across our company administration, liquidation, and receivership cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the insolvency VAT compliance calendar, ensuring timely submission of indirect tax returns.
  • Support IDT team case administrators on VAT-related matters, including VAT invoicing, tax points, and VAT return enquiries.
  • Prepare and/or review VAT returns and accompanying records for companies in administration or liquidation, covering a wide range of industries.
  • Liaise with HMRC regarding VAT return submission, option to tax, pre-credibility checks, and HMRC claims.
  • Draft indirect tax comments for creditor progress reports, estimated outcome statements, and secured creditors where relevant.
  • Develop and deliver ongoing VAT training and updates to the IDT case team.
  • Continually develop and improve the indirect tax process.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to provide updates on case progression and assist senior members of the IDT with planning.
  • Stay up-to-date with legislation and practical changes impacting VAT compliance.
Requirements
  • Strong UK VAT technical knowledge, including place of supply, time of supply, partial exemption, and compliance processes across various industries.
  • Experience in managing compliance in-house or managing a portfolio of clients/customers in practice/at HMRC.
  • Excellent communication, team playing, and project management skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and use Microsoft Excel at an advanced level.
