Job Description

The Nautical Science Instructor will be responsible for developing and delivering courses up to HNC Nautical Science and Class 1 Fishing level. This will involve preparing and delivering MCA short courses and SQA units for new entrants.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver training programs in nautical science
  • Prepare and deliver MCA short courses and SQA units for new entrants
  • Hold the minimum of a current MCA Certificate of Competency at Officer of the Watch Unlimited (STCW 95 REG 11/1) and/or Class 1 Deck Officer (Fishing) Level
  • Have good IT skills and be able to clearly explain all aspects of nautical science to a range of students
Requirements
  • MCA Certificate of Competency: Officer of the Watch Unlimited (STCW 95 Reg II/1)
  • MCA Class 1 Deck Officer (Fishing) Certificate of Competency or equivalent
  • Current MCA short-course certification
  • Range of optional short-course certifications
  • Experience of sailing on a range of vessels, preferably as Master or Skipper
  • Experience of using maritime/bridge simulators
  • Experience of marine engineering
  • Experience of managing discipline
  • Experience of assessing competence
  • Assessment experience
  • Teaching qualification (TQFE or equivalent)
  • ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)
