Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioural Support Specialist to join our team at Engage Education. As a Behavioural Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs, including Autism, Learning Difficulties, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualised support to students, focusing on their academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Assist teachers in the classroom by providing support to students with their learning activities, ensuring they remain engaged and on task.
  • Help manage and positively influence student behaviour, using de-escalation techniques and promoting a respectful and supportive environment.
  • Work closely with students who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP), ensuring their individual needs are met and progress is monitored.
  • Facilitate group sessions and activities designed to enhance students' social skills, self-esteem, and resilience.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students, promoting positive interactions and mutual respect.
  • Be prepared to handle crisis situations calmly and effectively, providing immediate support and guidance to students in distress.

Requirements

  • Experience working with young people, particularly those with Autism, Learning Difficulties, and SEMH needs.
  • Understanding of EHCPs and the ability to tailor support accordingly.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Patient, empathetic, and genuinely passionate about helping young people.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in youth work, education, or a related field (preferred but not essential).
  • Experience working in alternative education settings or with students who have been excluded from mainstream schools (preferred).
