Merchandising Industrial Placement Role Overview

N Brown is seeking a Merchandising Industrial Placement student to join our Retail Team for a 12-month period from September 2025.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage commitment dates and intake to maximize stock availability across all channels.
  • Ensure availability requirements are met through stock management and protection for key timings, campaigns, and product launches.
  • Identify trends and adjustments needed to the stock position through data analysis.
  • Review sizing performance monthly and adjust according to trends, flagging major shifts.
  • Raise new purchase orders and communicate adjustments to the supply base.
  • Work closely with suppliers and logistics to chase intake on key styles and ensure deliveries meet expected windows.
  • Maintain a balanced, commercial relationship with suppliers.
  • Participate in regular team reviews to ensure deadlines and targets are met.
  • Review the departmental critical path with the buying, design, and QA teams and feed back key actions to the supply base.
  • Help deliver the trading plan for the season to ensure optimum stock availability for all channels.
  • Review and react to performance, working closely with the supply base to minimize risk and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Manage stocks through promotions to clear through stocks within the selling window.
  • Discuss pricing opportunities versus competition and drive more profitable sales.
  • Utilize in-house data tools to review department performance, best and worst styles, themes, trends, color, and sizing performance to support the planning process.

Requirements

  • Current students on a related degree level course, such as Fashion Merchandising, Business, Economics, Mathematics, or Psychology.
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office, ideally with previous experience working with MS Excel to create reports and tables.
  • Highly analytical with strong mathematical ability and comfortable analyzing data and processing complex numerical information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a busy workload.
  • True passion and drive for a career in retail and a sound understanding of the Merchandising function within a business.
