About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Substation Project Engineer. As part of our SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works, we have a number of opportunities to support its delivery, including Senior Engineer, Project Engineer, and Assistant Project Engineer levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Involvement in the full project life cycle, from project definition, conceptual and front-end design development, preparing and evaluating tenders from contractors and consultants, detailed design reviews, HAZID/HAZCON/HAZOP sessions into supporting construction, installation, commissioning, and project completion.
  • Creating technical scopes, site location plans, primary plant layouts, and single line diagrams for new build and asset replacement type projects, operating up to 400kV.
  • Reviewing contractor/consultants detailed designs and witnessing factory acceptance testing.
  • Supporting site and operational teams to ensure the quality of installations, with minimal risk to network security.
  • Working closely with Engineering Managers and Project Managers to ensure that engineering and quality risks are identified and mitigated.
Requirements
  • A good awareness of the technical functions in Transmission, along with an appreciation of legal and regulatory obligations and project governance and engineering processes.
  • A self-starter attitude, who enjoys problem-solving and has an ability to communicate complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision-making by senior management.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate diligence and to prioritize workload.
  • An understanding of the legislation and implications of such for the management of the Transmission network for both Assets and Projects, including CDM & ESQCR.
  • Preferably hold or, with past work experience, be working towards a degree or masters in an appropriate engineering discipline depending on the level of position applied for.
