Job Overview

Hampshire Hospitals NHS is seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Specialist to join our team. As an Electrical Maintenance Specialist, you will be responsible for performing complex and non-routine electrical maintenance tasks, including fault finding, diagnosis, repair, and calibration of electrical systems and equipment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical maintenance tasks on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment, including electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, building control, and automation systems.
  • Undertake maintenance, repairs, and minor improvements across the Trust, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.
  • Assist the Electrical Operations Officer in delivering business plans, reviewing planned maintenance procedures, and supporting the organization.
  • Work in accordance with electrical HTMs, statutory regulations, IET Wiring Regulations, and Trust policies.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner, following appropriate risk assessments at all times.
  • Subject to individual availability, work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management.
  • Undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities at the request of management.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with Trust procedures.
  • Undertake technical fault finding on complex electrical systems and equipment, using cause and effect analysis and detailed examination to gain an effective solution.
  • Act as an Authorized Person (AP) for relevant systems, including LV/HV Electrical Systems and Lifts.
  • Provide service lead role for areas covered as AP, including providing plans and schedules related to maintenance activities and major interruptions.
  • Attend training courses as required to maintain the ability to carry out the role.
  • Follow detailed engineering drawings and specifications, interpret and follow all relevant regulations at all times.
  • Use all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Completion of a structured training program in electrical engineering for a minimum period of three years.
  • HNC/HND/BTEC/ONC in electrical and electronic engineering plus relevant professional experience.
  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations Certificate.

Desirable Criteria

  • Emergency first aid training.
  • Experience of working with specialist medical electrical systems such as IPS.
  • Inspection and testing of generators and inspection and testing of fire alarm systems.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • A minimum of one year's post-qualification experience working in an electrical maintenance environment.
  • Good awareness of health and safety legislation and experience of working to safe systems of work.
  • Work as an Authorized/Competent/Responsible Person on the following systems: High Voltage, Low Voltage, and Lifts.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working in an acute hospital environment.
  • Experience of working on Building Management Systems.
