Fleet Services Vehicle Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fleet Services Vehicle Technician to join our team at CRA GROUP LIMITED. As a key member of our fleet services team, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of our fleet of vehicles, ensuring they are in good working condition and meet the required standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out planned maintenance and responsive repairs to all vehicles and plant in use by the Council.
  • Ensure that all planned maintenance and responsive repairs are carried out to the necessary standard as laid down by the Vehicle Operators Standards Agency (VOSA) and manufacturers' procedures.
  • Undertake the planned maintenance and responsive repairs to all vehicles and plant supplied to end-user departments by Fleet Services.
  • Prepare HGV and PSV vehicles for annual test to all latest construction and use regulations and MOT testers' manual standards.
  • Liaise with the Fleet Vehicle Workshop Stores to ensure adequate vehicle spares are available and requisition non-stock items as required.
  • Liaise with user department drivers and supervisors on vehicle fault finding and vehicle availability and legal compliance.
  • Liaise with specialist vehicle repair contractors to aid accurate and expedited diagnosis of vehicle faults.
  • Be part of a 24-hour, 365-day standby rota, including bank holidays, and respond to major incidents when declared by the Council's Emergency Planning Officer.
  • Attend roadside breakdowns as required, undertaking detailed situation assessment and fault diagnosis and repair with due regard to personal safety.
  • Liaise with recovery contractors to arrange safe removal of vehicles.
  • Ensure all specialist tools and equipment are used in the correct manner and are in a fit and serviceable condition, reporting faults to the Workshop Supervisor.
  • In conjunction with the Workshop Supervisor, assist in undertaking H&S risk assessments and reviews within the Fleet Services Workshops.
  • Keep up to date with all developments in vehicle and plant engineering, attending specialist manufacturers' training courses and maintaining appropriate accreditation in line with legal requirements.
  • Maintain the ISO 9000/2000 quality system, ensuring all procedures are adhered to.
Essential Experience/Knowledge Required:
  • Experience in the repair and maintenance of HGV and PSV vehicles.
  • Detailed knowledge of vehicle workshop practices and commercial vehicle repair and maintenance.
  • Detailed knowledge of ISO 9000/2000 quality standards.
  • Detailed knowledge of VOSA HGV and PSV Operator Licensing Regulations.
  • Detailed knowledge of VOSA HGV and PSV Mot testing regulations.
  • Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety at work management Regulations.
Essential Qualifications Required:
  • HGV licence CE.
  • Driving Licence.
  • Good standard of general education.
  • Recognised apprenticeship in motor vehicle/mechanical engineering.
  • ONC or equivalent in motor vehicle/mechanical engineering.
