Senior Ecologist / ECOW Job Description

Assystem is a leading provider of project management, design, and construction supervision services within the nuclear industry. We are committed to accelerating the energy transition and supporting the UK's pledge to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Ecologist / ECOW to join our talented Ecology team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the coordination and management of site-based Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) teams, additional ecology resources, and sub-contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project/package management of subcontractors working on habitat and landscape management;
  • Input into and production of construction phase documents and overseeing the delivery of Site-Specific Environmental Management Plans;
  • Production and review of management plans, ecological method statements/risk assessments, and protected species mitigation strategies;
  • Ecological surveys prior to site clearance;
  • Liaising with clients' core environment & sustainability and project management teams;
  • Production and delivery of toolbox talks to the production team and sub-contractors;
  • Liaising with stakeholders and local authorities as required.

Requirements:

  • Ecology professional with experience gained across the construction/civil engineering areas;
  • Experience of supervising ecology or ECoW teams;
  • Fully conversant with producing ecological appraisals, method statements/risk assessments, and protected species mitigation strategies;
  • Demonstrable experience of delivery of habitat creation or site re-instatement works;
  • Broad experience of multiple environmental disciplines;
  • Membership of CIEEM or equivalent environmental organisation desirable.
