About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Haematology Consultant to join our team at Sussex Community NHS Trust. As a key member of our Haematology department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our services.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive clinical haematology care, including out-patient, day case, and inpatient services, working within a multidisciplinary team structure.
  • Offer liaison and clinical advice on Haematology test results, anticoagulation, and blood transfusion to hospital and primary care physicians.
  • Review and authorize blood films referred by Biomedical Scientists for second opinion.
  • Participate in the 1 in 4 consultant haematology on-call rota, working collaboratively with colleagues from the University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust.
  • Contribute to undergraduate education and the training of postgraduate trainees in Haematology, as well as non-medical staff.
  • Support the research output and administrative needs of the department.
  • Provide outpatient services for haematology patients, including formal clinics and additional clinics for urgent cases and patients on chemotherapy.
  • Supervise haematology patients undergoing treatment in day care settings.
  • Maintain and improve the quality of the Haematology laboratory service to provide a high-quality, comprehensive diagnostic service.
  • Develop existing specialist services in haematology and haemato-oncology in line with national and network guidelines and Trust policy.
  • Improve blood transfusion practice within the Trust in accordance with national blood transfusion service guidelines and legal requirements, in conjunction with the Hospital Transfusion Practitioner and the Hospital Transfusion Committee.
Person Specification
  • Full registration and license to practice with the GMC and be on the Specialist Register in Haematology (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
  • Applicants who are UK trained must also hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
