Job Overview
The BBC is seeking a talented broadcast journalist to join our team and produce high-quality content for BBC Breakfast and the BBC News at One.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and book guests for BBC Breakfast and the BBC News at One.
- Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
- Contribute ideas for stories, segments, guests, and story developments.
- Liaise closely with other team members and departments to ensure output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.
- Take a lead within a team setting or on delivering a specific piece of journalism or project as appropriate.
- Tailor different news treatments for different audiences, ensuring the output reflects the audiences we serve.
- Prioritize and plan activities, taking into account deadlines, staffing, and resources available.
- Carry out duties in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy.
- Comply with media law and OFCOM guidelines.
- May be required to present content on radio, TV, or online, live or recorded.
Requirements
- A broad range of knowledge on subjects ranging from politics and business to entertainment news.
- An eye for creative storytelling, package production, and guest booking.
- Regularly contribute ideas at key meetings and while working as part of a team or on location.
- Knowledge of working with live OBs and a good understanding of BBC Newsgathering systems.
- The ability to develop collaborative relationships within the wider BBC, working closely with colleagues in newsgathering and other programmes.
- Work across digital platforms for BBC News and understand the social media output for BBC Breakfast/BBC One and how to engage with underserved audiences.
- Working knowledge of and confident in BBC's Editorial guidelines.
- Comply with all BBC policies and BBC values, completing all mandatory courses.
