Job Title: Diabetic Eye Screening Specialist

About the Role:

The Diabetic Eye Screening Specialist plays a vital role in helping individuals living with diabetes by conducting regular eye screenings to detect signs of diabetic retinopathy.

  • Screen eyes on a regular basis to identify signs of diabetic retinopathy, a disease caused by changes to the blood vessels in the back of the eye due to diabetes.
  • Take photographs of the retina to check for signs of damage to the vessels, perform an initial review of the images, and send them for full assessment (grading).

Responsibilities:

As a Diabetic Eye Screening Specialist, your daily tasks will include:

  • Setting up the screening clinic safely and working with the venue's team.
  • Welcoming service users and conducting general eye health checks.
  • Measuring visual acuity and administering eye pupil dilation drops.
  • Using photography equipment to take photos of the retina.
  • Daily equipment cleaning and maintenance checks.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Full training will be provided if you're new to screening, but experience in a screening or healthcare background is an advantage.
  • Enrollment on the national Health Screening Diploma course, which combines on-the-job training with personal study.
  • Confidence in working with people and a patient, understanding approach to dealing with service users from diverse backgrounds.
  • A full driving license and access to a car for travel to various clinic venues.
  • A great eye for detail and a thorough approach to carrying out your work.
  • Minimum 5 GCSEs, including literacy, numeracy, and IT skills, or equivalent experience.
